My heart has joined the Thousand....

Done by India at New Tribe in Toronto.

there's a dog loose in the wood....

Hey everyone!

I'm another tattoo virgin contemplating the idea of a literary tattoo. I know what quote I want, where I want it, and I have the font and surrounding design more or less finalized (but I'm not much of an artist so it would need to be redrawn)... but I go back and forth on whether or not I actually want to get it done. I have moments where I really want to get it and moments where I still really want it but I kind of wonder if I don't like my skin just the way it is. I'm just curious if anyone felt this way when they were considering their very first tattoo.

For reference I'd be getting a quote from one of my favourite novels, Watership Down by Richard Adams. I love the novel (and the movie). The first time I read it was probably when I was about 6 years old with my mother. We used to sit down every night and read out loud. It's one of my fondest memories of my childhood, and probably very close to the beginning of my love affair with literature. On top of that it's about rabbits, which have been a huge part of my life ever since I was a child. So far I've been blessed with 4 of the adorable little critters... I'm also a veterinary student so the animal theme seems all the more appropriate. The quote is: My heart has joined the thousand, for my friend stopped running today. It's the rabbit prayer for when another rabbit dies and I've always loved it. There is something inherently sweet and sad about it, and I understand the sentiment because I have lost animals and people that are dear to me. I'd just be getting the first part of the quote (in order to cut down on the amount of text/size of the tattoo). I also want to get a very simply drawn rabbit in the design. My mother would positively kill me for getting a tattoo, and I think that (at least in this case) it's a rather personal thing, so I'd be getting it high on my ribcage where it'll be covered most of the time. It's really just for me to know it's there. This is the design as it is right now... excuse my lack of artistic talent.

Any comments about the tattoo design or input about how you felt before getting your first tattoo are eagerly welcomed!

School is out for summer!

School is done but the work isn't. I haven't really had a lot of time to recover and get my feet back under me. I've had to work on my vet school application so the stress is still eating me alive (which means my neck muscles are still killing me), and on top of that I have LOTS of frisbee and soon to have lots of work (which I'm super excited about).

I had been planning on just playing TUC, but I thought I'd join the Lotus/Lily practice roster so I could get lots of exercise and high intensity ultimate in... but now they want me to actually try out for Lily... so I am. Which means I may have insane amounts of ultimate this summer. Nationals are in Calgary right after the Stampede, so I definitely want to go to that as I've always wanted to go to Alberta but haven't gotten a chance yet.

In terms of work, I can't wait to go back. My first day is Wednesday, though I was in briefly today to discuss scheduling with my vet. I also helped out a bit and watched a surgery... I even got to staple the dog's abdomen! Way too cool. I love hands on experience. Apparently I'm going to get to glove up and get my hands in there and really experience surgery. I'm giddy with excitement!

On top of all of that I'm trying to find some extra volunteer experience, either at another clinic and/or at Riverdale farm, particularly because I need more large animal experience. So I'm not entirely sure where that's going to fit into my schedule, but I'll figure it out. I don't intend to go to all of the ultimate tournaments this summer because I just can't afford the time or money, but I want to go to a few, and I know my mom wants to take some vacation... not sure how that'll work out though with everything I have to do. I am a busy girl, that's for sure.
